A student's dream
Whilst studying in London in the late 1990s, Christian Gierstorfer pined for the scrumptious pretzels his native, Germany, is so well known for. A born entrepreneur, Christian was quick to notice that there was a gap in the snacking market in the UK and he set about realising his business dream of setting up a snack bar that offers consumers something different and interesting. In 1999 he set up his own company, Creativity and Food - C&F.
In April 2000, with his only capital being an oven salvaged from a skip, some flour and cheese, Christian managed to convince the London Selfridges team to give him a small table in its famous food hall, where he could bake and sell his delicious Cheese Pretzels.
Christian’s little table became so popular, Selfridges gave him a space in its Food Garden Café. With more space, better equipment and Petra on board, Christian really started building up a successful business and his dream. He now established a soup bar, followed by a juice bar and in 2001, he did it all over again, in Selfridges, Manchester. In 2006 the Energy Kitchen brand was born.
In January 2008, Christian and Petra Gierstorfer opened the first Energy Kitchen outside the UK in Bern, Switzerland.
